In spite of the recent struggles of the area's energy industry, Houston still ranks at the top of the list for corporate relocation or expansion. As announced by the Greater Houston Partnership last month, Houston was named the second most active metro area in the country by Site Selection magazine, with 2014's tally of 265 new or expanded corporate facilities.
The Houston-Baytown-Sugar Land Metropolitan Statistical Area has been a consistent top placer on this list, taking the first or second spot each year since 2011. Houston was also listed as the second most robust metro area in the nation, and Texas placed top on the state list for this past year, as well.
According to Bob Harvey, the President and CEO of Greater Houston Partnership, Houston's spot on the list is a reflection of its stature as one of the best places in the country in which to live, work, and do business. Mark Arend, editor in chief of Site Selection magazine, stated that those who are tasked with locating corporate facilities across all industry sectors are consistently finding that Houston meets their diverse criteria. Houston continues to be among the nation's leaders in job growth, Greater Houston Partnership stated.
